Scientists identify clue to regrowing nerve cells

School of Medicine researchers have identified a chain reaction that triggers regrowth of some damaged nerve cell branches, a discovery that one day may help improve treatments for nerve injuries that can cause loss of sensation or paralysis. To study how nerve cells respond to injuries in their branches, researcher Valeria Cavalli, PhD, grows them in “spots,” like the one pictured.

‘Privacy and Surveillance’ roundtable discussion to address history, meaning of privacy

Is privacy a “right”? What are we willing to sacrifice for privacy? How consistent are our beliefs about privacy and how consistently do we “practice” it? In response to these types of questions, WUSTL experts on privacy issues will participate in a roundtable discussion, titled “Privacy and Surveillance,” starting at noon Wednesday, Nov. 20, in Anheuser-Busch Hall.

Bringing Native American cuisine to WUSTL

Chef Nephi Craig, founder of the Native American Culinary Association, conducted a traditional Native American cooking demonstration in the Danforth University Center Nov. 3. Craig’s presentation, sponsored by the Buder Center for Native American Studies, focused on Native American foods’ resurgence in American cooking culture.
